Tips If You're New To Online Dating

By Jason King

Are you newly single and interested in using online dating sites to meet new people? There are a few of important tips you should know before you get started. Being a new single, especially after a long relationship, places you in a unique position.

It doesn't matter how long ago you became single again, you should be aware that you'll have an unavoidable bit of psychological 'baggage' that your online dating could be affected by. Your mental scars might only be small. What's important is to be on the lookout for ways this baggage creeps into your profile.

Your profile needs to be positive in nature so you should stay away from writing anything that shows you are heartbroken in any way. These emotions often creep out in subtle ways, so don't assume it will be something obvious. You could ask a friend for an opinion on your profile before you post it to the world

You may have deep feelings that you're not aware of and this could show instantly in your profile. You might give your profile a headline like "Are you out there?" This may seem innocent enough to you, but to others it suggests you might be desperate in your search for love.

Another example is listing all the things that ruined your last relationship, and what you didn't like about your previous partner in your profile.. This is also a mistake. While it might seem like a good idea to specify that you want someone who "doesn't lie, cheat or snore", it comes across to others as petty and a little bit bitter!

The key to online dating is to remain as upbeat and positive about the process as you possibly can. Be prepared to interact with a lot of singles before you find a date match. At first you'll probably make a lot of new friends while you get used to how you can benefit from online dating. This is normal at a dating service. BE happy being single while you're finding your feet, and realize that there are plenty more fish in the sea. - 16463
