How Important is Prospecting?

As a Member of a Motorcycle Club, I wanted to give some advice to new Clubs out there that are starting up and to those looking to become part of a Club on why I feel Prospecting is so important. I hope I can help make it clear.

I hear members of new Motorcycle Clubs say things like "We do not prospect people" or "We met someone and liked them so we gave them a Patch". To some of you out there this many sound unbelievable, but trust me it not only happens in many new MCs, it is the reason most new MCs do not make it threw their first year.

Finding a person you like and get along with is a great start. I have many real good friends I like, But I do not know if they would make good Club Members or not. If a person is going to be your Motorcycle Club Brother you need to get to know him as a Club Member first and he needs to get to know what it means to be a part of the Club!

I have spoken to many members of very casual Clubs and I hear a similar story over and over again. The story is how a group of them had been riding together for years having a great time and all getting along. Well one day a new person shows up maybe a friend of a member and he seems like a nice guy. He rides with them a couple of times and they let him into the Club. Right after he becomes a member he turns into a total moron! Now He is going places representing himself as a member of the Club making others hate him and the Club in the process. He starts making it so good members who have been around for years no longer wish to be a part of the Club! Some members want to throw him out, others say they cant do that. The Club is in total chaos and all are in fear of the club shutting down!

What should they do? Well all these problems could have been avoided if the person had prospected! By having a person prospect you can get to know them and see what they are really like. It is easy for a person to behave real well for a few days, but give them a little time and their true Colors will show!

Now how long should you prospect a person for? Well that depends on you and your Club. How much does your Club mean to you? Should you prospect the person three months? Six Months? One Year? I feel the answer is real simple, you and your Club members set a Minimum time limit and then you Prospect the person until they have become a Member and not a moment before that!

Now Prospecting is not just for the Club to find out if they want a person as a Member. It is also for the individual to find out if they want to be a Member of that Club. There is no shame in the fact that a certain Club may have not been for you. If it wasn't Im pretty sure there is a Club out there for you. Most people don't get married to the first person they meet in life. They look around till they find the one that's perfect for them! Like People all Clubs are different and Prospecting is going to be different from one Club to another.

Now it just maybe only my opinion, but I have always felt prospecting is not about trying to break a person. Prospecting is about a person turning into a Member of your Club. Some will rise and become a Brother others will not! My Club Brothers are as close to me as my real Brother. They are all strong adult men who have proven themselves! Not Boys who are looking to prove something to themselves! We all get along great and the only way to keep the Club that way is Prospecting!

I have heard many who have been involved in a Motorcycle Club say that they feel the Brotherhood of the Motorcycle Club world no long exists! I want everyone to know that just because it may not have been there in the Club they were apart of, or tried to become a part of does not mean it has gone extinct! I know that the Brotherhood of the Motorcycle Club world is alive and strong because I am a part of it!!!

While I would never suggest abandoning the concept of delivering high quality content to your subscribers, there is another type of list composed of subscribers who couldn't care less about content.

"What is this type of list?" you ask. - The "announcement list". Since 2002, I've been lecturing about the announcement list - on record at an event, no less. But this is still a highly unused asset for most marketing folks. That is because no one is telling you it works. Therefore, no one knows much about it, nor do they know how to create this type of list effectively. With that in mind, let's talk about it.

DEFINED: A list with the sole intention to inform when something new is ready for consumption, purchase or review. It announces "Come check this out, XYZ has just been released!" When you first think about this, you probably think, "Why would I even consider joining a list that is only a sales pitch and has no content?" Said that way, it really doesn't appeal to me either. But we aren't going to say it that way so How do you say it?...

If you go to my site you'll find a textbook example of this concept. PLRSO stands for "Private Label Rights Special Offers" I established this list for the sole purpose of informing people anytime I have a new PLR offer available for them to buy.

Got it? No ezine articles sent to them, no weekly newsletters, no blogging, no special reports, NO CONTENT, period!. These subscribers get sales messages. With a current total of 2,822 subscribers some of whom have already purchased many of the special offers which have been "announced" to them.

And how, does it work! Here are some of the reasons...

* Pre-Launch List. Create buzz and anticipation for an upcoming new product release by building a pre-launch list several weeks (even months) in advance.

* Ezine Publishers List. Build a list of publishers who want to know any time you have a new ezine article that is available for reprint in their ezines.

* Bloggers List. Allow bloggers who are looking for ready-made content to post to their blogs. "Announce" to them when you have new content.

* Industry News List. Become the "go to" guru who is on top of breaking news about your industry.

* Joint Venture List. Develop a list of partners and affiliates who are ready to promote anytime you have a new offer.

* Incentives List. How about creating a list of people to whom you offer "bonuses" if they purchase a new product of someone else through YOUR affiliate link.

* Freebie List. Give away rebrandable content (articles, reports, videos, etc.) to the subscribers of this list to earn commissions.

Success and Failure with the Zimmer Durom Implant

In 2006 a radical new hip replacement device called the Zimmer Durom Cup Replacement was approved for use in the United States. This one-piece design was a radical change from the three-part implants that had been used in previous decades. Doctors were impressed by the track record the implants had enjoyed in Europe for three years prior to the device being introduced into American markets. However, the thrill of victory was rapidly overcome by the agony of defeat as hundreds of U.S. patients started suffering pain from loosening implants.

Patients started complaining of pain in their hips. Although there is some pain to be expected for the first few months after hip replacement surgery, Durom Cup recipients were starting to complain of problems well after the three-month recovery period. Doctors are now convinced that revision surgery will be needed in almost 5.7% of the patients who received the transplants prior to July, 2008.

After being removed from the American market for a period of time in July, 2008, the Durom Cup Replacement component was reinstated in August, 2008 along with new training programs for physicians doing the implant surgeries. By following the techniques taught to them in an internet-based training program, surgeons can greatly reduce the number of problems patients suffer from loosening of the implants. Unfortunately, only about half of the doctors who were using the Durom Cup previously have elected to take the extra training necessary to use the technology now.

A lot of the unhappy patients who have experienced pain and suffering due to the loosening of their Durom Cup Replacements have filed lawsuits against the company. In addition, a group of stockholders in Indiana filed a class action suit stating that the company was negligent in informing investors about the problems in a timely manner. Even though the company did a lot of testing on the product and found no defects, they announced that they had set aside $47.5 million to pay these claims. They do admit that they were at fault for not offering adequate training to physicians who were using their product.

Product liability attorneys are encouraging hip replacement patients to file suit if they are still having hip pain more than three months after their surgery, if there has been any loosening in their artificial joint, or if their doctors have recommended revision surgery to correct their problems. Most states have laws on the books that entitle patients to compensation if they have experienced pain, additional medical expense, and loss of wages caused by a defect in the prosthetic device they are using.

The Durom Cup Replacement device is once again being used in the U.S., but many physicians are still opting to use something else rather than risk the high rate of failure that has been associated with its use in this country. These doctors still believe that there is something intrinsically wrong with the design and are reluctant to spend the time it would take to be trained in the correct implant procedures. Patients need to look at the facts and decide for themselves if they want to take the risk, even with the improved odds brought about by better training. There is another way to look at the situation, though, and many patients are beginning to see the Durom Cup in a new light. After all, in spite of the 5.7% estimated failure rate for the device, it also has had an American success rate of 94.3%. - 16463
