Great Family Crockpot Meals

By Jane Silver

Crockpot cooking is a fun and easy way to prepare the family meal. By using a little creativity, you can come up with some appealing meals that are easy to prepare ahead of time. You simply plug in the pot before you leave for work and it's ready to eat when you get home.

One classic meal that is easy to prepare is the American pot roast. It is a balanced diet of roast, potatoes, onions and carrots slowly cooked to preserve the nutrition and the delicious taste. To cook it, put the clean potatoes, onions, and carrots at the base of the pot, fill half of the pot with water, put the roast on top and plug it to cook.

For a tastier version, add a can of cream of mushroom soup, which becomes wonderful gravy. Use any leftovers for a stroganoff, roast beef sandwiches or as a stew base.

Another great crockpot meal is shredded chicken fajitas. Cut up some chicken breasts, tomatoes, peppers and onions and sprinkle with taco seasoning. Slow cook all day and serve with flour tortillas and cheese. This can also be served over lettuce for a great taco salad.

This is one dish that can be eaten in numerous ways. Leftovers can be used later for vegetable salad or even as rice toppings for a heavier meal.

Another great crockpot special is ham with beans. Add a few potatoes and carrots for a tasty and nutritious meal. Don't forget to serve the cornbread or muffins!

Chili prepared in a crockpot is the best! Brown your beef, pork, turkey or chicken add beans, tomatoes, peppers and onions and chili seasoning to taste. The aroma when you get home will really be out of this world.

A crockpot makes your meal planning and preparation easy and nutritious. All you need to do is put the ingredients in the pot and plug it in when you leave for work. This is one of the easiest ways to make sure that your family has healthy nutritious meals every night. - 16463
