In Tucson, Flowers are rated #1 for Valentine's Day Gifts

By George Ramos

So you've decided to give that special woman in your life flowers for Valentine's Day. Maybe you don't want to be cheesy and want some creativity instead of just buying roses. What other kinds of flowers are good? In Tucson, flowers here are a big deal, but there's not many flower stores around or good places to get them from, so ordering on the internet is king.

If you consider the history of Valentine's Day, you'll find some popular alternatives to flowers, but nothing you haven't thought of...

I'll give you zero guesses as to what's the most popular Valentines Day flower. Roses, of course! I've heard that in other countries, other flowers are the top choice for Feb 14th, but here in the USA roses are king, especially pink and red ones. Who can argue with 300 years of tradition in gifting flowers? Well, actually you don't have to be totally in line with tradition - you can easily pick different color roses, like fire and ice, white, yellow, or even choose other flowers like orchids, lillies, tuberoses, alstromeria (I don't know what they are but I like the name), etc. If you live in Tucson, flowers here are limited to a few 1 day bloomers that live on cactii, but online there are gazillions of choices, and beautiful ones, too.

Tucson flowers are for the desert, where they belong. Check the link below for some great flower deals.

Not all of these types of flowers come in red or pink, but from what I've been hearing and seeing, geneticists have been splicing and dicing all kinds of flower species to make crazy colors and combinations, like fire and ice roses, etc. For some reason, yellow and blue seem to be this year's hottest colors, but go with what the woman in your life likes, as long as it's not black. well, actually, black flowers do exist, but the joke is that they're dead, just like your relationship will be if you send them.

Just like trying to figure out your woman's ring size if you're considering proposing to her, spend 5 minutes asking her what her favorite color is, if you don't know already. That way, the Valentine's Day Flowers you're going to be getting her will match what she likes and you're more likely to be a big winner.

A couple of final things to consider. Does your woman like big huge displays of flowers, or is she more simple? Flowers can come in various displays, such as mugs, vases, baskets, etc. If you have kids around the house, maybe a glass vase isn't a good idea. If your woman has her own special vase or glass holder for flowers, maybe she'll be happier putting it in her own holder, not the one that comes with the flowers. Who knows? Just make sure you find out before the time comes so you get her the best flower types, colors, and holders and displays you can. Valentine's Day is about love and romance, not, "uh... thanks...i guess...for the flowers...uh, honey", while she's rolling her eyes at you.
